The International Society of Gender Medicine presents the
2nd International Congress of Gender Medicine focusing on the scientific impact of biological sex/gender on normal function and the experience of disease in women and men. The aim of the Congress is to invite an international group of experts in this field to provide the audience with an overview of the latest scientific data and information on all the sub-specialities of medicine.

The Congress will provide the participants with:

Up-to-date information about gender-specific features of patient care in all the sub-specialities of medicine
Data to show that gender-specific medicine improves patient outcome
New avenues of communication and collaboration between the members of the faculty and the audience
A compilation of abstracts culled from the proceedings of the Congress will be published in the indexed journal Gender Medicine
An opportunity to join the newly formed Int’l. Association of Gender Medicine

The foundation of a body of knowledge needed to construct a system of optimal practice of gender-specific medicine

On March 14th through 18th of 2007, Philadelphia will host a national LGBTI health summit. “Beyond Boundaries: A Blueprint for LGBTI Healthcare Equality” will bring together over 500 of the most influential leaders, decision-makers, and practitioners in the field of LGBTI health and wellness from around the country.

The Summit’s leadership team includes key figures from LGBTI health centers, such as Philadelphia’s Mazzoni Center, the City of Philadelphia, researchers and educators from institutes and universities (including event partner and co-sponsor, Drexel University School of Public Health), health care practitioners, grass-roots activists, consumers, and more.

Within gender studies, both transgenderism and intersex have become the cause celebre. Despite this newfound interest, many people have little understanding or have misconstrued ideas about transgenderism and intersex, sometimes confusing one for the other. The purpose of this workshop is to help participants better understand the political needs of transpeople and intersexed people by deepening understanding of the two categories and the institutional issues of both, where the commonalities lie and where they diverge.
